President Karzai Is Saddened by News of
Earthquake in Iran

Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, is
saddened by the news of an earthquake early this morning in
central Iran that has left many people dead and injured.
First reports show that the epicenter of the earthquake
was on the outskirts of Zarand, 35 miles northwest of Kerman.
"I am saddened to hear this news. I hope
the casualty numbers will not be large. In any case, I send
mine and the Afghan people's deep condolences to those affected
and to the brotherly people of Iran", the President said
in his reaction to the news.
