Afghanistan’s National Income Will
Increase to $335 Per Capita for the Year 1385
Office of the Spokesman to the President
04/01/2006
Arg, Kabul - H.E. Hamid Karzai, President
of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, met with Mr. Noorullah
Delawari, Head of the “Da Afghanistan Bank”, and
received the report on the country’s economic growth.
Mr. Delawari informed the President that Afghanistan’s
national income per capita in 1384 had reached $293 and it’s
widely anticipated that it will increase to $335 for the year
1385.
In his election manifesto, the President had committed
himself to increase Afghanistan’s national income per
capita from $200 to $500 within 5 years. This growth rate indicates
a significant step towards a fully-fledged economy.
During the meeting Mr. Delaware said, “The
growth rate of our economy in 1384 was 14 percent and our last
year’s growth rate was 8 percent.”
The Afghanistan Bank has had notable success in
containing inflationary pressures on the Afghan economy. During
the year 1384, Afghanistan’s inflation rate was 10 per
cent and food prices had significantly fallen. Only the inflation
rate for house rents and oil prices had risen.
The President thanked Mr. Delaware for his
work and called the report a good news for the future of Afghanistan’s
economy and for the improvement of living conditions.
