President Karzai Welcomes the Conclusion
and Outcomes of the Afghanistan Development Forum 2005

Presidential Palace, Kabul - H.E. Hamid Karzai, President
of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, welcomes the conclusion
and outcomes of the Afghanistan Development Forum 2005, held
from 4 to 6 April 2005 in Kabul.
The President is pleased to note the progress
on the government-donor dialogue concerning issues such as the
need for predictability of available resources, channeling development
aid through the National Budget, and better coordination in
the reconstruction process.
In his opening address to the Forum, the President
emphasized the importance of building the capacity of the Afghan
Government in all reconstruction efforts, particularly by channeling
increased donor resources through the national Budget process.
He was delighted to note the positive feedback at the Forum
on this issue. The President also discussed the critical importance
of both government and non-governmental organizations being
responsible and accountable with donor funds.
The President is encouraged by the announcements
of continued and increased support by various donor countries.
He welcomes the UK invitation to hold an international donors
conference on 22 June in London ahead of the G8 Foreign Ministers
meeting.
The President thanks the international community
for its continued cooperation with and support to Afghanistan.
He looks forward to working with Afghanistan's partners in implementing
the ideas discussed and agreed upon at the Afghanistan Development
Forum.
