President Karzai Leaves for Iran

Arg, Kabul - H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, left for Iran on a two-day state visit this morning.

During this visit, the President will meet with Ayatollah Seyyed Muhammad Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Mahmoud Ahmadinezad, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Dr. Hadad Adel, Director of the Parliament and H.E. Manochehr Mottaki, Minister of Foreign Affairs to discuss bilateral relations, regional and international issues and other issues of mutual interest.

The Governments of Afghanistan and Iran will sign agreements on the extradition of criminals, the transfer of convicts, the encouragement of investments, the construction of a railway line between Khaf in Iran and Herat in Afghanistan, the strengthening of cultural and judicial cooperation between Afghanistan and Iran, the protection of plants and the exchange of quarantine technologies.

The President will address Iran’s Center for Strategic and Middle East Studies and the Chamber of Commerce on trade and investment opportunities in Afghanistan, the expansion of regional trade ties, Afghanistan’s relations with its neighbors and our neighbors’ role as a gateway to South and Central Asia and the Middle East.

The President is accompanied on this trip by H.E. Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta, Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Zarrar Ahmad Muqbel, Minister of Interior, H.E. Dr. Zalmay Rasoul, National Security Advisor, H.E. Sarwar Danish, Minister of Justice, H.E. Muhammad Hanif Atmar, Minister of Education, H.E. Muhammad Ismail, Minister of Water and Energy, H.E. Obaidullah Ramin, Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, H.E. Sohrab Ali Safari, Minister of Public Works, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Amin Farhang, Acting Minister of Economy, Sayed Makhdom Rahin, Acting Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, H.E. Dr. Enayatullah Qassemi, Acting Minister of Transport, H.E. Dr. Eshaq Naderi, Senior Advisor to the President on Economics, H.E. Nader Ali Mahdawi, Advisor to the President on Religious Affairs, H.E. Muhammad Anwar Jigdalek, Advisor to the President on Youth Affairs and the Governors of Herat, Farah and Nimroz provinces.
