First Trilateral Meeting between Afghanistan,
Iran and United Kingdom

Kabul - The first trilateral meeting between
senior representatives of the Governments of Islamic Republic
of Afghanistan, Islamic Republic of Iran and the United Kingdom
was held today in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic
Republic of Afghanistan.
Representatives of the three countries exchanged
views on the counter-narcotics situation and agreed further
to improve coordination and information sharing to enhance counter-narcotics
operations in Afghanistan and Iran. The representatives have
also agreed to strengthen their cooperation to limit the production,
trafficking and the demand of dangerous drugs and precursors.
The delegations welcomed the efforts by the Government
of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in the field of counter-narcotics
and discussed further support to develop the capacities of relevant
institutions.
The three sides welcomed the increased commitment
to practical cooperation on counter-narcotics, trade and other
key issues. New ideas were proposed for putting the commitments
into practice.
The delegations also noted the importance of close
cooperation between the three countries to promote regional
economic activity.
The three sides agreed on the continuation of
the trilateral discussion.
H.E Deputy Foreign Minister, Dr.Haidar Reza headed
the delegation of Afghanistan and chaired the trilateral meeting.
The General Director of West Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry
of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Agha-Razi headed the Iranian
delegation. The Director of South Asia and Afghanistan of the
Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Mr. Tom Phillips headed the
delegation of the United Kingdom.
