President Karzai: The Fight against Terrorism May Only Succeed When There is a Distinction between the Victim and the Terrorist

President Hamid Karzai strongly condemned last night’s terrorist attack on a restaurant in Wazir Akbar Khan area of Kabul city.

According to the Office of Kabul Police Chief, 21 Afghan and foreign citizens were killed and 4 others injured in the incident.

Denouncing this criminal act in the strongest possible terms, President Karzai said, “The fight against terrorism will succeed only when there is a clear distinction between the victim and the terrorist and only when the roots of terrorism are targeted. Therefore, if the NATO forces led by the US want to be an ally and a partner with the people of Afghanistan, they better target sources of terrorism.”

The President added, “The policy of considering both the victim and the source of terrorism as strategic allies has never had any success, but rather countless sacrifices in Afghanistan.”

President Karzai said, the people of Afghanistan believe that Pakistan and the United States can help Afghanistan’s peace process. Achieving peace requires a clear policy and strategy to distinguish between those who favor and those who oppose the peace process of Afghanistan.

The President offers his deepest condolence and sympathy to the families of the victims and wishes rapid recovery for the wounded.
