H. E. Ambassador Jawad Presents His Credentials
to the President of Mexico, H. E. Vincente Fox Quesada

Washington, D.C. - H.E. Said Tayeb Jawad,
Ambassador of Afghanistan to the United States, is meeting with
H.E. Vincente Fox Quesada, President of Mexico, today, August
18, 2004 to reestablish Afghanistan’s diplomatic relations
with Mexico. Ambassador Jawad will present his credentials as
non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of
Afghanistan to Mexico at the Office of the President in Mexico
City.
Commenting on his visit to Mexico, Ambassador
Jawad said, “I am privileged to convey the warm wishes
of President Karzai and the people of Afghanistan to the President
and people of Mexico at this crucial juncture of our history,
as we embark to accelerate with the assistance of the international
community the successful process of solidifying peace, democracy,
and reconstruction in Afghanistan. Afghanistan offers tremendous
investment opportunities and we look forward to Mexico’s
assistance and investment helping rebuild Afghanistan.”
Ambassador Jawad is the first Afghan Ambassador
to present his credentials to the President of Mexico after
a 30-year gap in diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and
Mexico due to years of war and the breakdown of state institutions
in Afghanistan. The government of Afghanistan has striven hard
over the past three years to restore its bilateral relations
with foreign countries.
