Mr. Fazel R. Fazel
Political Counselor
Mr. Fazel R. Fazel has served as Political Counselor
at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington, D.C. since 2004.
He routinely attends meetings with counterparts in Washington,
provides briefings on political affairs and prepares and translates
reports and correspondence pertaining to Afghanistan and international
politics. Mr. Fazel attends various seminars and forums on the
rebuilding effort of Afghanistan as well as other relevant geopolitical
issues.
Prior to joining the Afghan Foreign Service, Mr.
Fazel was an instructor at the United States Defense Language
Institute (USDLI) in Monterey, California. At the USDLI, Mr.
Fazel briefed US military officials about the culture and society
of Afghanistan, prior to their deployment.
From 1967-1979, Mr. Fazel served as a District
Attorney at the Ministry of Justice of Afghanistan. He holds
a Masters Degree in Law from George Washington University. He
is the author of a book, “Shadow over Afghanistan,”
published in 1989.
