Ms. Khaleda Atta
Commercial Attaché
As Commercial Attaché for the Economic,
Trade & Investment Department of the Afghan Embassy in Washington,
D.C., Ms. Khaleda Atta handles economic policy issues between
the U.S. and Afghanistan and serves as the primary liaison between
the Embassy and the American private sector. Additionally, she
counsels US businesses on trade and investment opportunities
in Afghanistan as well as licensing and registration. Through
business events and public speaking engagements, she promotes
awareness of the Afghan economy and business opportunities,
and advocates for the opening of US markets toward Afghan products.
Atta has worked previously as a Graduate
Research Assistant at the Center for Nonproliferation Studies,
focusing research on the Middle East. She has also worked with
the U.S. Department of Commerce in the Afghanistan & Iraq
Investment and Reconstruction Task Forces. Ms. Atta has an M.A.
in International Policy Studies with a specialization in International
Trade & Development from the Monterey Institute of International
Studies in Monterey, CA and is also a graduate of the University
of the Pacific, Stockton, California with a BA in Communication
with a Media/Public Relations emphasis. Ms. Atta serves as a
Board Member of a number of humanitarian, civic and Afghan community
organizations. She was a past President of the Society of Afghan
Professionals (SAP) and has been writing for afghanmagazine.com
since 1997. She speaks English, Farsi (Dari), Arabic & Spanish.
Ms. Atta was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, and lived in New York,
the San Francisco Bay Area and Washington D.C.
