The US President congratulates Afghanistan on Independence Day
August 17, 2014
In a letter to President Karzai, the President of the United States, Barack Obama, congratulated the President and people of Afghanistan on the 95th anniversary of Afghan Independence.
The letter reads as follows:
Dear Mr. President:
The American people join me in congratulating you and the people of Afghanistan as you celebrate your independence on August 19.
This year, millions of Afghan men and women courageously showed their commitment to a peaceful and democratic future for Afghanistan by voting in the historic presidential elections. The United States looks forward to the conclusion of the electoral process and stands ready to work with the next President of Afghanistan. As I have said, the United States will continue to support the Afghan people as they build their country for years to come.
We extend to you our very best wishes for a secure and peaceful future for all the people of Afghanistan on this day of celebration.
Sincerely,
Barack Obama
