Preview of Delhi Investment Summit on Afghanistan

WASHINGTON (June 27, 2012) – The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has announced that it will hold the “Delhi Investment Summit on Afghanistan” on Thursday, 28 June 2012. Sponsored by the Indian and Afghan governments, this event is intended to showcase Afghanistan’s growing investment potential to foreign organizations. As many as 300 guests are expected to attend the event with representatives from over 40 nations, including the United States, Iran, China, and other major powers.

The Summit seeks to attract foreign businesses and investors to the country’s burgeoning market economy as international aid contributions begin to decline in the coming years. To achieve this goal, speakers will give presentations on growing investment opportunities and corporate success stories to an audience of international organizations and corporations, mining companies, and investment firms interested in expanding their businesses into Afghanistan. These representatives will also be meeting with a number of high-profile leaders from Afghan companies in order to explore the possibility of international and regional business partnerships.

The Summit is also set to include talks about the Islamic Republic’s national growth strategy and highlight sectors of its infrastructure that are ideal for further investment to better the overall economy.

Afghanistan is a country abundant in both human resources and mineral wealth. The sponsors of the Delhi Investment Summit on Afghanistan will showcase these advantages to foreign investors and reestablish the country’s historical position as a hub for global trade and commerce.
