Dr. Rassoul meets with United States Secretary of State

Foreign Minister Dr. Rassoul meets with U.S. Secretary of State on the sidelines of the 68th United Nations General Assembly.

KABUL-Foreign Minister Dr. Zalmai Rassoul met with U.S. Secretary of State Mr. John Kerry and Special Representative of the United States for Afghanistan and Pakistan Mr. James Dobbins on the sidelines of the 68th United Nations General Assembly in New York this morning.

The two foreign ministers reviewed the broad spectrum of topics and issues in the bilateral relationship and reviewed regional developments of mutual interest.

Both sides discussed the Bilateral Security Agreement currently under negotiation between Afghanistan and the United States.

Dr. Rassoul also briefed Mr. Kerry about the Afghan government’s preparations for holding free, fair and open presidential and provincial council elections next year, and stressed the importance of credible elections for the consolidation of Afghanistan’s young democracy. Both sides underlined the importance of non-interference in Afghanistan’s elections next year by external and internal actors.
