I was incredibly dismayed to learn of the attack at Camp Bastion in Helmand province in which two U.S. service personnel lost their lives yesterday.

Afghanistan is forever indebted to Capt. Matthew D. Roland and Staff Sgt. Forrest B. Sibley, two of the thousands of brave men and women from the United States who have served honorably in Afghanistan for the important cause of our nations’ shared security. The Embassy of Afghanistan, my family and I send our deepest condolences to Capt. Roland and Staff Sgt. Sibley’s families and express our sincere gratitude for their service.

Every day, men and women in uniform from the United States and Afghanistan, and other members of the international community, work together as true partners to secure Afghanistan for the common cause of defeating terrorism. Their service and their sacrifice will never be in vain.
