Statement by the Ambassador of Afghanistan to the United States
Said T. Jawad on
The 8th Anniversary of 9/11

Today I, together with my fellow Afghans, honor the memory of the lives lost on American soil, September 11, 2001, and grieve with the families and friends whose loved ones died in New York City, at the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
We will never forget those who died, and we will always remember the extraordinary efforts of the firefighters, police and emergency responders, and those who sacrificed their own lives on Flight 93 to protect their fellow Americans. On this day, we take a moment to remember that Afghanistan remains the front line in the war against terror, and our collective missions to combat terrorism on Afghan soil unites American, Afghan and Coalition Forces in an unwavering commitment to overcome oppression, fear and intimidation inflicted by terrorists all over the globe.
Today, Afghans stand side by side with our American friends; our two countries unified in a renewed spirit of service and common purpose against the criminals responsible for 9/11. Those who remain at large must be brought to justice.
Let us renew our commitment, once again, to defeat terrorist networks, defend our homelands, stand up for the enduring values that we share and cherish and to seek freedom, peace and prosperity in my country of Afghanistan, the United States and around the world.
