
Burhanuddin Rabbani Chosen as Chairman of the High Council for Peace

Former President Prof. Burhanuddin Rabbani was unanimously chosen to lead the High Council for Peace during the second meeting of the Council hosted by President Hamid Karzai on Sunday.
Chairman Rabbani thanked the Council members for the trust and confidence they placed on him as the chairman and promised to make every effort possible to fulfill the aspiration of the people for peace. He termed the chairmanship a responsibility and stated that ensuring peace is not the duty of the Council alone, but of the Afghan nation and of all those patriot Afghans who want to see an end to the current turmoil.
He further said a firm determination and hard work can make it possible to seek a lasting peace for the suffering Afghan nation.
He hoped Allah, the Almighty bless the council with the ability to fulfill its national duty to bring peace to his nation.
