Central Bank Governor and Deputy Finance Minister of Afghanistan Attend IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings

Governor of Da Afghanistan Bank (Central Bank of Afghanistan) Abdul Qadeer Fitrat and Deputy Finance Minister Mustafa Mastoor were recently on a weeklong visit to Washington, participating in International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group Annual Meetings during October 8-10, 2010. They held a number of bilateral and multilateral meetings with the US Department of Treasury, USAID, the World Bank, senior IMF officials.

In addition, Deputy Finance Minister Mastoor met with Danish Development Minister, German State Minister, UK Minister of International Development; Iranian Deputy Finance Minister and the Swedish Delegation. They exchanged views on private banking and financial system of Afghanistan, as well as IMF programs which the Afghan Ministry of Finance successfully completed in September 2010.

Moreover, Deputy Finance Minister Mastoor highlighted the achievements of the financial sector in Afghanistan over the past nine years, as well as discussing issues of international concern, including the economic outlook, financial stability, poverty eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness. First Secretary for Economic Affairs Abdul Qadier Nur accompanied the delegation throughout their visit to Washington, while attending their bilateral and multilateral meetings.

The Annual Meetings are usually held for two consecutive years at the IMF and World Bank headquarters in Washington and every third year in another member country. The last three Meetings abroad were held in Istanbul (2009), Singapore (2006), and Dubai (2003).
