Applications Being Accepted for 2010 Peace through Business Program

WASHINGTON, DC- January 7, 2010 - The Embassy of Afghanistan, on behalf of The Institute for the Economic Empowerment of Women (IEEW), announces today applications are being accepted for the 2010 PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS program online. IEEW provides both Afghan and Rwandan women a path toward entrepreneurship through partnerships with American businesswomen. In addition to teaching Afghan and Rwandan women about building and developing successful businesses, the women are also introduced to new concepts of freedom, democracy, and leadership.

The Embassy of Afghanistan, in support of the IEEW’s program, encourages individuals to share this valuable opportunity with any female Afghan or Rwandan business owners who may be interested in joining the program. Individuals who complete the online course will be considered for one of 15 slots available for more intensive instruction in the United States.

For Afghan women, in particular, the IEEW program provides a course toward achieving success in their homeland; a country where their rights had once been entirely revoked.

The IEEW’s 2010 Peace through Business initiative delivers women a valuable, life changing opportunity. For more information, please log on to the IEEW website, and view the application for 2010 Peace through Business at:  http://www.ieew.org/applications/2010-student-application. Interested candidates may also view a video of the 2009 program by logging on to www.ieew.org.

Peace through Business® is a training program designed to provide long-term business education to women entrepreneurs in Afghanistan and Rwanda. Through private partners, government agencies, and institute staff, a business education program is delivered in three phases: 1) In-Country Education, 2) Leadership Development, which includes an International Women’s Economic Summit and Mentorship and 3) Pay it Forward.

For any outstanding details The Institute for the Economic Empowerment of Women can be contacted directly by phone at 405.943.4474.
