Foreign Service Institute Students Visit Embassy

December 16, 2011
Washington, DC

On December 16, 2011 over thirty participants of the Foreign Service Institute's language training program visited the Embassy of Afghanistan for an afternoon tea and conversation with members of the diplomatic team.

The participants are U.S. officials who have been assigned to work in Afghanistan. They are spending almost a year in formal language study in either Pashto or Dari at the Foreign Service Institute.

Counselor Hassan Soroosh welcomed the participants and hoped that, while in Afghanistan, they would have the opportunity to travel around the country and witness how the Afghan people, with support from the international community, are steadily moving towards building a stable, self-reliant and prosperous country.

Mr. Farid Haidari, the newly appointed Cultural Attaché of the Embassy, spoke about Afghanistan's culture and told the participants about beautiful historic sites that they should visit while working in Afghanistan.

The visit to the embassy was an excellent opportunity for the students to interact with Afghan diplomats, learn firsthand about the country's culture, and practice their developing Dari or Pashto skills.
