Middlebury Student’s Photographs Provide Glimpse of Life in Afghanistan

Throughout November the photographs of Afghan native Bilal Sarwary were shown at Middlebury College in Vermont to excellent reviews. Sarwary, the BBC’s former Kabul correspondent, is a first year student at Middlebury. After working as a photo-journalist Sarwary had amassed hundreds of photos from his time spent in Afghanistan. His formal exhibit at the Ross Fireplace Lounge on Middlebury’s campus attempts to capture the lives of regular Afghans. Sarwary says his photos tell the story of how Afghanistan has changed in the past five years. "I am an ambassador," he told Middlebury’s campus newspaper, "I am interested in weapons of mass construction, not weapons of mass destruction…They [the older generations] solved problems with bullets, we will solve them with ballots."
