Ambassador Jawad Addresses the Alaska World Affairs Council

Ambassador Jawad made his first visit to Alaska on November 19-20 on the invitation of the Alaska World Affairs Council. Beginning in Anchorage, the Ambassador gave a power point presentation to Central Middle School that introduced the 500+ students to the people, culture and history of Afghanistan. The event was moderated by Ms. Amber Myers, who in addition to being a celebrated teacher, has served in Afghanistan with the National Guard. The Ambassador addressed a full-capacity audience of the Anchorage World Affairs Council with a presentation entitled, “Beyond the Headlines: Security and Stability in Afghanistan.” Ambassador Jawad participated in a roundtable discussion with Alaskan military personnel following his presentation. In his conversations with the soldiers, he expressed the gratitude of the Afghan people for their hard work and sacrifice in support of peace and security in the region.

The next day the Ambassador traveled to Juneau for more engagements, including a speech to the Juneau World Affairs Council at the University of Alaska.

During his trip, the Ambassador met with journalists at the Anchorage Daily News, the Juneau Empire and KTOO radio (click on links to read articles).
