HSU Marching Band Performs Afghan National Anthem
On November 8, the Humboldt State University Marching Lumberjacks performed the national anthem of the Republic of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
With the help of the Embassy of Afghansitan, the U.S. Marine Corps and the office of U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson, Humboldt State Marching Lumberjacks alumnus Gordon Johnson tracked down and received a band arrangement of the anthem.
The band performed the anthem to honor the Afghanistan national basketball team at the start of an exhibition game versus HSU. This occasion marks one of the first times that an American marching band has performed the anthem outside of Washington, D.C.
