The World Affairs Council of Jacksonville is hosting a dinner to honor His Excellency Said Tayeb Jawad, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the United States, on Monday, Nov. 6. It will be held at the Jaxport Cruise Terminal. There will be a private reception at 6 p.m., followed by cocktails at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m.
The purpose of this dinner is to recognize the courageous and democratic leadership of the country of Afghanistan and the importance of the challenges we face together. It will also underscore the sacrifice and service of U.S. men and women. Additionally, holding the dinner at Jaxport will recognize the port’s role in the logistical support of our troops serving in this country. Dress for the evening is cocktail attire for the ladies and business attire (dark suits) for the men.
Mayor Peyton will deliver opening remarks and present a key to the city. After dinner, the Ambassador will share his thoughts about what lies ahead.
