Afghan-American Chamber of Commerce to Host Business Event

On October 21, 2008 the Afghan-American Chamber of Commerce (AACC) will host its Fourth Annual U.S.-Afghan Business Matchmaking Conference at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, Washington, D.C.

Conference attendees will be able to discuss business opportunities with Afghan ministers covering the key sectors of power and energy, economy, urban development and agriculture. Additionally, attendees will be able to hear U.S. government and business experts discuss economic development programs and opportunities and to meet with a delegation of Afghanistan- and Dubai -based businesspersons working in the region.

A number of prominent officials will be in attendance, including Eng. Mohammad Pashtun, Minister of Urban Development of Afghanistan; Mr. Zalmay Khalilzad, U.S. Ambassador to the UN; Mr. Said T. Jawad, Ambassador of Afghanistan to the U.S.; Mr. Robert Mosbacher, Jr., president of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation; and Mr. Ashraf Ghani, chairman of the Institute for State Effectiveness.

An Informational Trade Fair held in conjunction with the conference will facilitate the exchange of information on businesses working in Afghanistan or providing goods and services to Afghanistan.

Conference registration includes many networking extras. A special outreach and networking day for organizations and businesses working with and in Afghanistan will be held on October 22 and will provide attendees an informal setting for dialogue with government, business and NGO leaders. The outreach-networking day will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel, 2800 Pennsylvania Ave. N.W., Washington, D.C.. There is no charge for attendance at the networking event.
