Foreign Minister Spanta Discusses Bi-lateral Relations with Secretary Rice and Receives New U.S. Ambassador

 

Foreign Minister Dr. Rangeen Dadfar Spanta held a telephone conversation with the US Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice early on April 15. In this conversation, both sides exchanged views on latest developments in Afghanistan. Dr. Spanta expressed Afghanistan’s appreciation for the US government's ongoing support of Afghanistan and expressed his wish to further expand relations between the countries. Secretary Rice reiterated America’s long-term commitment to the mission in Afghanistan.

On April 16, the Foreign Minister received the new US Ambassador to Kabul William Wood. At the meeting two sides exchanged views on current security situation in Afghanistan. Ambassador Wood expressed his desire for an Afghanistan without the menace of terrorism and narcotics, and pledged to work with the iinternational community and countries of the region to achieve sustainable security and development.

Dr. Spanta also met with outgoing Canadian Ambassador David Sproule. Dr. Spanta thanked him for his commitment to Afghanistan’s reconstruction and expressed his condolences for the recent deaths of six Canadian soldiers.
