President Karzai Addresses the Organization of the Islamic Conference
President Hamid Karzai traveled to Dakar Senegal this month to participate in the Organization of the Islamic Conference’s 11th international summit. The summit aimed to bring together the leaders of the Islamic world to develop a new charter that will enable it to play a more active role in the world of the 21st Century.
President Karzai addressed the OIC about the continuing violence in Afghanistan and discussed the role of the international community in rebuilding the Afghan economy. "The fight against terrorism, a menace that uses our beliefs and religion to justify killing thousands of innocent people is primarily the responsibility of us Muslims," said the President. "The vast majority of victims of terrorism are innocent Muslims. This is proven by the martyrdom of thousands of innocents in Kandahar, Kabul, Islamabad, Istanbul, Bali and Algiers."
