The Media Relations Department at the Embassy
ensures that, as a post-conflict country with an extremely challenging
state-building process, Afghanistan remains a subject of public
dialogue. In courting the media spotlight, the Media Relations
Department helps sustain popular international support for Afghanistan
and the commitment of the international community to the country’s
long-term reconstruction. The Media Relations Department regularly
engages the press to ensure that their coverage of Afghanistan
remains accurate and truthful, while ensuring that the good
news about Afghanistan’s achievements is not ignored.
Furthermore, the Media Relations Department ensures that the
Afghan Government’s perspective is articulated by the
Ambassador or other Embassy Officials in print, radio and television
news programs. The Media Relations Department facilitates briefings
and assistance for journalists traveling to Afghanistan.
The Media Relations Department also facilitates
media coverage of Embassy events and official visitations of
Government of Afghanistan officials. Media Advisories and Press
Releases are drafted and disseminated as necessary to announce
Embassy events or GoA achievements. The MR Department regularly
monitors the media to study press coverage of Afghanistan and
initiate response if necessary via interviews, press meetings,
or articles for publication. The Media Relations Department is intimately involved
with the drafting and updating of content for the Embassy’s
newsletter and website.
