Journalists from all over the world are encouraged to visit Afghanistan. Standard-issue visas are issued and required for journalists and all media related personnel (i.e. filmmakers, photographers, cameramen, producers, etc.) traveling to Afghanistan and must be obtained in advance of the trip.
Afghanistan's Consular offices issue standard visas to journalists. Journalists will receive a letter with their visas containing information on how to register with an seek assitance from the Directorate of Media Relations located at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Char-rah Malik Asghar, Shah Mahmood Ghazi Wat, Kabul, Afghanistan.
Single entry, one month visas can be obtained in 24 hours for a cost of $100. These visas expire 1 month from the date issued. The cost for 3 day processing is $70 and the cost for two week processing is $50. Single entry visas for longer assignments are available, but will take approximately one week to process, so please apply in advance of your trip. Both 3 month and 6 month single-entry visas are also available. Fees must be paid in US dollars with either a money order or cashier's check made payable to the Embassy of Afghanistan. If you are sending your application requirements by mail or courier service, please include a prepaid, self-addressed return envelope. We suggest you use USPS (United States Postal Service) Express Mail or any trackable courier service to ensure the safety of your passport.
