Mr. Hamed Elmi
Cultural Attaché
Hamed Elmi has served as Cultural Attaché
at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington DC since May 2005.
From 1983 to 2001 Mr. Elmi served as researcher to the BBC Eastern
Services, reporter to Voice of America Dari service and producer
for Radio Voice of Afghanistan. After the fall of Taliban in
Nov 2001, Mr. Elmi was appointed to lead the Monitoring Department
for the Office of the Spokesperson to the President at the Presidential
Palace and was later appointed to serve as the Deputy Spokesperson
and Head of Communication to the President.
Mr. Elmi also served as Spokesperson to
the President Hamid Karzai’s Campaign team during Afghanistan’s
first democratic elections in 2004, and became head of Media
Commission in April of 2005. Mr. Elmi has authored five books
as well as numerous articles on Afghanistan’s political
life, military and culture.
