January 10, 2013- President Hamid Karzai met on Wednesday late afternoon (US time) with Senator Mitch McConnell, Republican Minority Leader of the US Senate and members of the Senate foreign relations and armed services panels.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed Afghan-US bilateral relations, US presence in Afghanistan beyond 2014, Afghanistan’s upcoming presidential elections and regional issues.

President Karzai said that he would have a series of important meetings with other US senior officials in the coming two days and hoped to return from this very important visit to Afghanistan with what the Afghans expect of him to take back.

Senator McConnell hoped that the meetings between the two sides during the President’s visit would bear positive outcomes.
