President Karzai Chairs Judicial Meeting
President Hamid Karzai chaired on Thursday a regular meeting of the judicial bodies to discuss issues of judicial importance in the country.
The meeting follows a series of discussions the President regularly holds with officials from the judicial as well as law enforcement bodies to follow up on measures that are agreed in improving the situation in prisons and the prisoners.
The Interior Minister said there were over one thousand persons currently held in prisons across Afghanistan whose sentence terms have been completed but were still being held for failing to make the required fine payment, long overdue now.
After a thorough discussion, the meeting decided that such prisoners be released at the soonest and the progress be reported back within a week time to the President.
In attendance to the meeting were the Chief Justice, Minister of Interior, Chairman of the Constitutional Oversight Commission, Acting Attorney General as well as Director General for the Prisons.
