Washington, D.C. (May 25, 2012)—Ambassador Hakimi hosted a celebratory dinner honoring Afghan graduates of the class of 2012 and Afghan Fulbright recipients on Friday at the Embassy. Over fifty people came together to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduates and enjoyed a wonderful assortment of traditional foods and desserts.

The Ambassador congratulated 13 Fulbright recipients and dozens of other graduates on their accomplishments and what they mean for the future of Afghanistan. While sharing his personal experience of working in Afghanistan following the establishment of the Interim Administration, he also expressed his hope that every one of the graduates will find their way to their deserving place in building a self-reliant, democratic, stable and prosperous Afghanistan.

James DeHart, Director of the Office of Afghanistan Affairs at the U.S. Department of State also joined the celebration to represent the strong commitment between Afghanistan and the US to encourage educational exchanges like those provided by the Fulbright program, as outlined in the recently signed Strategic Partnership Agreement.

Ultimately, though, it is the Embassy’s hope that the dinner will strengthen communication with these intelligent young minds as the Afghan people and government go forth and build a bright future for Afghanistan.
