Afghan Journalists Visit the Embassy

Eight Afghan journalists, who were visiting Washington DC as part of the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program, came to visit the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington, DC on December 2, 2011. The journalists are traveling in the U.S. from November 28-December 16, 2011, to learn about investigative journalism.

The group of Afghan visitors included both men and women and the journalists came from media organizations such as Nargis Radio, Radio Muska, BBC Radio, Radio Sabawoon, Ariana TV, Pajwok Afghan News and Tolo TV. The journalists met with Ambassador Hakimi for tea and conversation. They shared their experiences working as journalists in Afghanistan as well as their enthusiasm for Afghanistan's developing free press. Ambassador Hakimi encouraged their important work and stressed the valuable role that free media plays in a democratic society.
