Afghan-American Rangina Hamidi to be Honored as a CNN Hero

Afghan-American Rangina Hamidi was selected this month as a finalist to be honored at "CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute," the culmination of a five-month public campaign to recognize ordinary people for their extraordinary accomplishments.

The 18 finalists were selected from more than 7,000 nominations submitted by viewers in 80 countries. Ms. Hamidi will be recognized for her efforts to advance the cause of “justice, civil or equal rights.”

The CNN Heroes finalists were featured in stories airing on CNN and CNN International beginning Tuesday, November 27 on "Anderson Cooper 360." CNN Heroes culminates in a live global telecast hosted by CNN's Anderson Cooper and Christiane Amanpour on December 6.

Ms. Hamidi is being recognized for her commitment to helping empower Afghan women through job skills and business training. She has participated in Thunderbird University’s Project Artemis and currently serves as a Field Director for Afghans for Civil Society. Ms. Hamidi currently resides in Kandahar, where she has been working since 2002.
