Foreign Minister Spanta Meets with Chinese Counterpart

Foreign Minister Dr. Rangeen Dadfar Spanta met with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Kabul on November 14. The two sides discussed the expansion of political, economic, cultural, commercial, education, and agricultural relations, and the further strengthening and continuation of defense and security cooperation between the two countries. In a joint press conference, Foreign Minister Jiechi announced an 11 million dollar grant to Afghanistan and promised to provide a market for Afghan products in China. He reiterated China’s support for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.

“We are happy with the reconstruction process in Afghanistan and will continue our cooperation in all fields with the country. We support the Afghan government's campaign against terrorists,” said Foreign Minister Jiechi.

Foreign Minister Spanta said that Afghanistan wishes to strengthen its relationship with China.”We have a strategic position towards China in view of the economic cooperation and close relations between the two countries. We are happy that recently we have further boosted our relations and China is involved in the reconstruction of Afghanistan,” he said.
In more than 52 years of relations between Afghanistan and China, the two countries have signed more than 60 agreements and memorandums of understanding in the political, economic, commercial, and cultural fields.
