President Karzai Attends the ISAF-NATO Transfer of Authority Ceremony

Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, attended the ISAF-NATO Transfer of Authority Ceremony this morning at ISAF-NATO headquarters in Kabul.

In his address to the gathering the President thanked all NATO and Coalition countries for their assistance to the security and reconstruction of Afghanistan.

“I, on behalf of the people of Afghanistan, thank all countries under ISAF and NATO that have provided assistance to the security and reconstruction of Afghanistan. I thank those nations which have sent their sons and daughters to Afghanistan for the sake of peace and prosperity.”

“I also thank all NATO and Coalition nations for training and equipping our national police and army. I thank General Eikenberry for his services to the people of Afghanistan in the past five years. He has played a major role in training and equipping our national police and army. He has shared our pains and victories. I also thank General David Richards for his commitment to the security of Afghanistan.”

Addressing terrorism the President said, “Today, we are entering a new phase which is the transfer of authority from the Coalition to NATO. Five years ago, the international community and the Afghan people started the fight against terrorism to free Afghanistan.”

“Afghanistan is still suffering at the hands of the terrorists who come to our country from outside. Five days ago, the enemies of Afghanistan martyred our innocent people in Kabul.”

“The people of Afghanistan are the main victims of terrorism. The terrorists have first spilt the blood of the Afghan people. The people of Afghanistan will be at the frontline in the fight against terrorism to defend its religion and soil. Afghanistan’s bravery is a historic bravery.”

“No doubt that an international fight against terrorism is required. I am happy to witness the international fight against terrorism in Afghanistan. I call on the international community, Muslim and non-Muslim nations, to unite in the fight against terrorism and defeat it.”
